Alive & Thrive joins partners in celebrating the launch of the first CódigoLactancIA monitoring report, a milestone in strengthening accountability for the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes in Mexico.

CódigoLactancIA is Mexico's digital platform for monitoring the Code. It includes innovative tools like the Virtual Violations Detector (VIVID), which scans social media and online marketplaces for potential violations by well-known brands. Beyond flagging potential violations, the platform empowers the public to report issues directly, generating real-time data that improves transparency and helps guide enforcement action.

Mexico is one of six countries where such platforms are currently operational, helping to strengthen law enforcement in overseeing advertising and marketing practices.

This progress mirrors a broader global trend. The recently published WHO Code Status Report 2026 found that since 2024, 19 countries have introduced new legal measures related to the Code, with 15 of them strengthening existing alignment, including Argentina, Bahrain, Benin, Indonesia, Kuwait, Lao PDR, Montenegro, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sri Lanka, UAE, Yemen, and Zimbabwe.

Alive & Thrive is proud to have supported the development of the CódigoLactancIA platform and the production of this first report. The strong participation in the launch event, which brought together government, academia, civil society, and partners, reflects growing momentum to tackle ongoing challenges, including low exclusive breastfeeding rates.

Alive & Thrive extends its congratulations to the entire CódigoLactancIA team, and looks forward to continued collaboration in protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding across Mexico.
