The Ministry of Health in Viet Nam has recently taken important action to enhance oversight of nutritional products for infants and young children, following data shared by Alive & Thrive through the Virtual Violations Detector (VIVID).
The official dispatch from the Ministry of Health calls on provincial and city-level authorities to take clear and practical steps to address violations of the National Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and related products. It highlights the crucial role of credible evidence and a strategic partnership between the government and civil society in ensuring accountability and protecting public health.
These steps include:
Conducting comprehensive inspections of the production, sale, and advertising of breastmilk substitutes and related products.
Strictly enforcing existing regulations and reporting any serious violations to the Ministry of Health so they can be appropriately addressed.
Promoting breastfeeding through strengthened public awareness campaigns.
Providing guidance to health facilities and businesses to ensure compliance with legal measures in advertising and product distribution.
